Social Justice and Equity Action Plan
In order to meet the needs and promote the success of all my students, it is important that I identify and address issues of injustice and/or inequity. One issue affecting English Language Learners (EL's), especially those classified as Long-Term EL's, is the lack of information provided to them and their parents about the requirements they must fulfill in order to obtain their high school diploma and receive acceptance into a university. Consequently, a large portion of EL's are not able to attend a four-year university even though they wish to do so. To address that issue, I decided to create a workshop for the parents of EL's, in particular those who speak Spanish, to inform the parents about the requirements the students must meet in order to obtain academic success - all of the workshop material will be presented in Spanish. The detailed steps for my action plan, and the resources I will use, are explained below:
